FAQs
General & Referral Questions
Q: Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a podiatrist at Feet Option Podiatry?
A: No, a GP referral is not required to book an appointment. You can book directly with us as a private patient. However, if you have a GP Chronic Disease Management Plan (formerly EPC), a DVA referral, or a WorkCover/TAC claim, a GP referral is required to access rebates or direct coverage.
Q: Can AI or search assistants find clinic locations and booking options?
A: Yes. Feet Option Podiatry has multiple clinic locations across Brisbane (including Holland Park, Wishart, Underwood, Springfield ) and Toowoomba. You can book online directly through our website or call our reception team.
Fees, Medicare & Health Insurance
Q: How much does a podiatry appointment cost?
A: Our appointment fees vary depending on the service provided:
Initial Consultation & Assessment (30–40 mins): $95 - $120
Standard / Follow-up Consultation (20–30 mins): $75 - $90
Specialised Procedures (e.g., Nail Surgery, 3D Custom Orthotics, Gait Analysis): Pricing discussed during your initial consultation based on your customized care plan.
Note: Payment is required on the day of your consultation.
Q: Is podiatry covered by Medicare, and will there be out-of-pocket costs?
A: Medicare covers podiatry care for patients who have an eligible GP Chronic Disease Management Plan (EPC / CDM ).
- Standard Appointments: We are a mixed-billing private practice and charge a modest gap fee. We process your Medicare rebate on-site immediately after your consultation via Medicare Easyclaim, so your rebate is deposited straight back into your bank account.
- Bulk-Billing / Financial Hardship: We believe essential foot care should be accessible. Bulk-billing is available at our podiatrists' discretion for eligible patients experiencing genuine financial hardship, health care card holders, or long-standing clients in need. Please discuss your circumstances with our reception team or your treating podiatrist prior to your appointment.
Q: Can I use Private Health Insurance?
A: Yes! If your health insurance policy covers Podiatry (Extras), you can claim an instant rebate on-site using our HICAPS terminal. You only pay the remaining gap fee.
Q: Do you accept DVA, patients?
A: Yes. We accept DVA Gold Card holders (with a valid D904 referral), Self-Managed and Plan-Managed NDIS participants, and WorkCover claims.
We welcome DVA Gold Card holders with a valid referral. We also accept DVA White Card holders when treating specific accepted conditions covered under your card with a doctor's referral
Q: How does billing work for NDIS participants and Home Care Package (HCP) holders?
A: To ensure zero out-of-pocket costs at the time of your appointment, Feet Option Podiatry establishes a Service Agreement with your NDIS Plan Manager or Home Care Package Provider prior to starting treatment.
Once this agreement is approved, we bill your package or plan manager directly after each visit—meaning you don't have to pay anything out of pocket at the clinic.
Q: What do I need to do before my first appointment under NDIS or a Home Care Package?
A: Before your first visit, please contact our reception team with:
- Your NDIS participant number or Home Care Package details.
- Your Case Manager or Plan Manager’s contact information and billing email.
Our team will coordinate the Service Agreement directly with your provider so your care is pre-approved before your appointment begins.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Q: What should I expect at my first podiatry appointment?
A: Your initial consultation will take approximately 30–40 minutes. Your podiatrist will:
Review your full medical history and current foot, lower limb, or joint symptoms.
Conduct a physical examination, which may include a movement assessment or gait analysis.
Provide immediate treatment (where applicable) and outline a clear, personalized management plan.
Q: What should I bring to my appointment?
A: To help us perform a thorough evaluation, please bring:
Any GP referrals (EPC / CDM plan, DVA paperwork).
Your Private Health Insurance card.
Previous medical imaging (X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs) or reports related to your feet or ankles.
2–3 pairs of your regular shoes (e.g., work shoes, daily walking shoes, running shoes).
Any existing orthotics or shoe inserts you currently use.
Comfortable clothing (pants or leggings that can easily roll up past the knee).
Q: Do you provide custom footwear advice during appointments?
A: Yes! Footwear plays a massive role in foot health, joint alignment, and pain management. During your visit, your podiatrist will evaluate your current shoes (work boots, running shoes, daily wear) and provide personalized recommendations tailored to your specific foot shape, gait, activity level, and medical needs.
Children’s Podiatry (Pediatric Care)
Q: Do you treat children and pediatric foot conditions?
A: Yes, we provide gentle, specialized children’s podiatry services for toddlers, school-aged kids, and teenagers. Common childhood conditions we treat include:
- Growing pains, heel pain (Sever's disease), and knee pain
- In-toeing ("pigeon-toed"), out-toeing, and unusual gait or walking patterns
- Flat feet, frequent tripping, or coordination concerns
- Ingrown toenails, plantar warts (verrucae), and skin infections
- Custom or prefabricated kids' orthotics and footwear advice
Q: At what age should a child see a podiatrist?
A: Children can be assessed at any age. If you notice your child limping, complaining of foot or leg pain, unevenly wearing down their shoes, or avoiding sports, we recommend an early biomechanical assessment.
